of the Tectonosphere of the Indian Ocean

Abstract—For the southern part of the Indian Ocean, maps of gravity anomalies in various reductions on the
scale of 1 : 15 000 000 were compiled on the basis of the data of surface-ship gravity surveys averaged over one-
degree boxes and the results of satellite altimetry measurements. Generalization of the previously obtained data
performed to compile the map presented allow one to regard this map of the anomalous gravity field as the most com-
plete one and to apply it to the studies of the deep structure of the tectonosphere of the southern part of the Indian
Ocean. The same purpose was pursued while compiling a map of the axes of paleomagnetic anomalies, which was
further used in the analysis of the history of the geodynamic evolution of the region. Both the map of the chrons and
the gravity anomaly map were used to construct a schematic of lithosphere thickness. To do this, the previously
acquired age–thickness and Glenny anomaly–age–thickness relations were used. Two-dimensional density modeling
of the deep tectonosphere structure was performed over the profiles crossing the major morphostructures of the
ocean; they proved the validity of the suggested schematic of lithosphere thickness.
