Communities of Benthic Foraminifera
of the Pacific Continental Margin of North America

Abstract—Forty-seven communities of benthic foraminifera were established at the continental margin of
North America on the basis of the analysis of their composition at 1232 stations (within a depth interval of 0–
3000 m), with respect to the prevailing abundance of the dominant species. The habitats of the communities are
formed under the influence of the cold waters of the California Current, warm waters of the Alaska Current, and
upwellings. The shelf and continental slope communities confined to the zones of the oxygen minimum and
high content of C_org were distinguished. Distribution of the North American communities in the other regions
of the World Ocean is considered.
