AbstractWe consider a simple mathematical model, which accounts for some common regularities of the
onset of red tides: the joint effect of various biohydrochemical factors and the dependence of the initiation of
a self-induced bloom on the features of the temporal dynamics (rate of changes) of the characteristics of the
environment. Explicit formulas for the estimation of the dangerous range of the ecosystem parameters are
obtained.
