Abstract—Calculation approaches to longshore transport of sandy sediments are discussed. The estimation of
the total sediment transport rate is shown to be possibly based on the so-called CERC formula, where the pro-
portionality factor K should be calculated from relationships of Bayram et al. [8] or Leont’yev [4]. In both cases,
the results are very close to each other if the author’s determination of the wave breaking depth is used. Under
the condition of contrasting variations in the sediment grain size over the coastal profile or in the case of frag-
mentary sand distribution on the surface of the bed, the local approach implying process-based modeling is
more effective. A model is suggested to compute the local longshore sediment transport rates.
