AbstractThe features of sedimentation of the carbonate mineral associations over the northeastern shelf of
Sakhalin and other regions of the Sea of Okhotsk are considered. Special attention is paid to the correlation
between the carbonate neoformations and abnormal fluxes of methane. In the bottom sediments with high con-
tents of methane, the carbonate sulfide associations are found, whose generation was influenced by gas, mostly
methane, fields. Joint consideration of the distribution of the gas and geochemical fields and the mineral asso-
ciations in the Sea of Okhotsk allows us to understand better the mineral generation mechanism in bottom sed-
iments, possible formation of the ore accumulation, and to use them as indicators to forecast the mineral
resources.
