Abstract—In October 1997, field studies were carried out aboard the R/V Akvanavt in the Black and Aegean
seas. The research efforts involved all the basic observations required for validation of the satellite ocean color
data. A new floating spectroradiometer designed at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, Russian Academy of
Sciences, and a MER-2040 instrument (Biospherical Research Instrumentation Inc.) were successfully inter-
calibrated.
