Abstract—The influence of the Ekman turbulent benthic boundary layer on inertial oscillations is studied on
the basis of a simple barotropic -plane model of the ocean. It is shown that the account taken for the friction
in the Ekman layer leads to a shift of inertial oscillations into a higher frequency range with respect to the theory
which neglects viscosity.
