Abstract—The dynamics of the water at the site of the accident of the Komsomolets nuclear submarine is stud-
ied. On the basis of long-term instrumental observations, we analyze the averaged characteristics and frequency
spectrum of the disturbances of the velocity field. It is shown that synoptic and mesoscale structures make the
major contribution to the energy of the disturbances (up to 90–92%). An essential interannual variability of the
current intensity in the near-bottom layer is revealed. The necessity of the monitoring of the dynamics of the
bottom layer in all seasons is justified.
