The Sedimentation Processes and Evolution of Foraminiferal
Communities During the Last Deglaciation
in the Barents Sea

Abstract—The microfaunistic, lithological, mineralogical, and grain-size features of the sediments from
16boreholes up to 40 m long, drilled in the eastern shallow-water area of the Barents Sea, were studied. The
first stage of deglaciation is characterized by a low productivity of the basin. Later, a considerable growth in the
foraminifer abundance was observed (Retroelphidium clavatum and Cassidulina reniforme prevailing) related
to the recolonization that followed the ecological stress.
