Hydrochemical Structure of the Black Sea
over the Standard Section from Gelendzhik
to the Center of the Sea

Abstract—The data are presented from hydrochemical analyses for oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, nitrates, nitrites,
ammonium, manganese, and methane at the 100-mile standard section from Gelendzhik to the center of the
Black Sea. The studies were carried out in November of 1997 from the R/V Akvanavt. Sampling and hydro-
physical measurements (temperature, density, and transparency) were performed using a Sea Bird probe sup-
plied with a Rosette complex consisting of twelve 5-liter plastic Niskin bottles. The characteristic feature of the
expedition considered is water sampling down to the maximum depth (more than 2000 m).
