AbstractThe measurements of reflectance of the spectral radiance of the ocean are considered with emphasis
on the sea-truthing observations. For this purpose, a set of instruments has been developed at the Shirshov Insti-
tute of Oceanology, Russian Academy of Sciences. The set involves an on-board deck radiometer, a floating
radiometer, and a reference photometer to check out the irradiance channels of the radiometers and to record
the surface irradiance at a fixed wavelength during the spectral measurements. The design and metrology of the
latter two instruments are described. In the course of the field testing, the floating radiometer performed well
under strong wind and cloud cover while the deck instrument was virtually inoperable.
