Abstract—In the leading order of perturbative QCD, the cross section for the hadroproduction of doubly
charmed baryons is calculated for various experimental conditions. It is shown that an experimental estimate of
the cross section for J/ + D + frame0 production would make it possible to reduce the uncertainty that arbitrariness
in choosing s and mc values introduces in the cross section for the production of doubly charmed baryons. It
is demonstrated that the contribution of cc and frame1 to the total yield of charm is about 10frame26frame310frame45 in the fixed-
target HERA-B and E781 experiments. At Tevatron and LHC, the analogous suppression factor is about
10410frame53. The observation of the doubly charmed baryons cc and frame6 is virtually impossible in the E781
experiment. At the same time, the expected number of events featuring double charm may amount to about
105at HERA-B and Tevatron and to 109 at LHC.
