Abstract—A covariant expression for the lepton tensor is obtained in the form where the contributions of the
longitudinal and transverse polarizations of a virtual photon are explicitly separated. It is shown that the degree
of the linear polarization of the virtual photon is greater when the lepton mass is taken into account.
