AbstractA mouse protein specifically binding with telomeric sequences was found in the nuclear matrix and
termed mouse matrix-associated telomere-binding protein (mMTBP). The specificity of mMTBP binding with
vertebrate (T2AG3)135 was higher than with Tetrahymena (T2G4)130. DNAmMTBP complexes reacted with
antibodies against the frog oocyte MTBP of the nuclear envelope. Immunoblotting with these antibodies
revealed two proteins in the mouse nuclear matrix, 70K and 120K, only the former binding to telomeric DNA.
The relationships among known telomere-binding proteins and the possible relatedness of mMTBP to interme-
diate filaments are discussed.
Key words: mouse telomere-binding protein, nuclear matrix, gel mobility shift, immunoblot
