AbstractBinding of the isolated 70-kDa
subunit (
-70) of Escherichia coli RNA polymerase with oligode-
oxyribonucleotides (ON) corresponding to regions 10 and 35 of the spc promoter of E. coli ribosomal genes
was studied by gel filtration and gel retardation assay. The preparation of
-70 was shown to contain no admix-
tures of DNA-binding proteins using 4-[N-methyl-N-(2-chloroethyl)amino]benzyl-5'-phosphamide derivatives
of ON.
Key words:
subunit, Escherichia coli RNA polymerase, oligodeoxyribonucleotides, affinity
