Abstract—Low-temperature of liquid-phase chlorination of 1,2-dichloroethane initiated by various olefins are
studied. The dependence of the olefin initiating ability on the olefin structure is discussed. The synergism was
found to appear when the composition based on azo-bis-isobutyronitrile and olefin is used. Some kinetic param-
eters of 1,2-dichloroethane chlorination in the presence of the initiating composition based on azo-bis-isobuty-
ronitrile and allyl chloride were estimated. The mechanism of the process is proposed.
