Abstract—This survey concerns the structure of data on phase diagrams and the necessity of their topologic
description. Approaches are formulated to choosing topologic invariants of a phase diagram and using them for
the topologic characterization of diagrams. Sample use of the topologic approach for constructing the liquidus
surface of the Cu–Ni–S system using experimental data is given.
