AbstractCharacteristics of the distribution of Pleurogrammus azonus fingerlings throughout the epipelagic
zone of deep-sea regions in the Russian economic zone of the Sea of Japan in various years and seasons, as well
as the routes of their feeding and wintering migrations, were studied using the data of six complex surveys per-
formed in 19851991. In the Peter the Great Bay, no migrations by fingerlings into deep-sea regions were dis-
covered. However, these migrations were discovered to the north of the bay; both the duration of feeding in
the pelagic zone and the proportion of fingerlings migrating to this zone increased in the northward direction.
In the pelagic zone of deep-sea regions, P. azonus fingerlings dwelt within the upper 50-meter layer and pre-
ferred temperature of 16C.
