Abstract— The reaction of methyl esters of 4-aryl-2-hydroxy-4-oxobut-2-enoic acids (aroylpyruvic acids) with 4-aminobenzoic acid ethyl ester (benzocaine, anesthesin) in glacial acetic acid in the presence of anhydrous sodium acetate gave rise to ethyl (Z)-4-(4-aryl-2-hydroxy-4-oxobut-2-enamido)benzoates. Analgesic activity of the synthesized compounds was studied.

Keywords: ethyl (Z)-4-(4-aryl-2-hydroxy-4-oxobut-2-enamido)benzoates, 4-aminobenzoic acid ethyl ester (benzocaine, anesthesin), analgesic activity
