Abstract— The reaction of aroylpyruvic acids methyl esters with aromatic aldehyde and urea (thiourea) in methanol leads to the formation of methyl 6-aryl-5-aroyl-4-hydroxy-2-oxo(thioxo)hexahydropyrimidine-4-carboxylates. Structure of the obtained compounds was established by 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
