Abstract—Co-adsorption of an anion and a low-adsorbing cation is analyzed within the Alekseev–Popov–
Kolotyrkin model supplemented by two virial isotherms (APK+2VI). In the case of a high attractive interaction
of specifically adsorbed anions and cations, the condition dEq=0 /dlnc > RT/F is insufficient to confirm the
Esin–Markov effect. The drawback of APK+2VI is in the existence of a potential range where the system of
isotherms has no solution.
