Abstract—The paper sums up the scientific organizational activity carried out by the Dagestan Department of
the Dokuchaev Soil-Science Society for 50 years of the research on soils of Dagestan and other regions. The
coordinating role of the department is shown by implementing the priority measures, including organizing the
Department of Biology and transforming it into the Caspian Institute of Biological Resources of the Dagestan
Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the creation of a basic Soil-Science Department at Dag-
estan State University, and the International Academic Journal Arid Ecosystems. The paper shows the quantita-
tive growth and popularization of knowledge of soils, and the expansion of the sphere of influence in state, pub-
lic, and private enterprises.
