Abstract—Long-term studies on migrations in colonies of northern mole-voles (Ellobius talpinus Pall.) were
performed by the mark–recapture method. A total of 915 animals from 34 families were marked, and individ-
uals were recaptured 2 to 13 times. Original data on seasonal and annual population dynamics in emigrants and
their sex and age composition are presented. It was found that this group comprises animals of different sea-
sonal generations and ages, their life-span is shorter, and migrant females are less fecund than settled ones. Dis-
persal in northern mole-vole is one of the main factors of population control and the maintenance of population
homeostasis.
