Abstract—Possible ways of improving the barrier technique for taking census of small mammals are
described. It is proposed to use five trapping cylinders, which are installed in the corners and the center of a
20 20-m plot using a 20-cm garden drill. Around each cylinder, four 2.5-m long barriers are placed at right
angles to one another. Census in each biotope should continue for no less than five days.
