Abstract—Individual variation in the formation of annual tree rings in Siberian spruce and Siberian fir was
assessed using an example of spruce–fir phytocenoses characterizing the conventionally primary stage in the
development of three main forest types in southern taiga forests of the mountainous part of the Middle Urals.
It was determined that the duration and rate of tree ring formation can serve as the main parameters of this pro-
cess, determining the differentiation of trees by the types of seasonal increment. Specific features of tree distri-
bution with respect to different types of seasonal increment over the cenosis area and within biogroups were
determined.
