Digital Processing of Complex Signals
in Multielement Array Antennas

Abstract—A method for processing complex signals in passive array antennas is considered. The method is
based on the analysis of the singular numbers and corresponding vectors of singular bases of the signal matrix.
This method can substantially increase the output signal-to-noise ratio. An iterative procedure for optimal esti-
mation of both the signal and the amplitude–phase distribution is proposed. Theoretical estimates of the effi-
ciency of the considered method are presented. It is shown that the efficiency of this method is close to that of
the matched-filtering technique. The results of statistical modeling confirming theoretical results are presented.
