Abstract—The liquid-phase modification of carbon adsorbents by the ions of heavy metals was studied, the
adsorbents being intended for absorbing sulfur dioxide. The optimal conditions of the process for the prepara
tion of adsorbents were determined. The adsorbents were characterized by an enhanced adsorption capacity
with respect to SO2 and catalytic activity in the reaction of oxidation of sulfur dioxide to trioxide. The kinetics
of the adsorption of SO2 by modified adsorbents was investigated, and a mechanism of the process was
proposed.
