Abstract—The effect of a nonuniform surface charge distribution for a particle with a thin electrical double
layer on the concentration polarization of this layer was considered. The influence of nonuniformity on the
induced dipole moment of the double layer and relevant effects (permittivity and conductivity of a suspension)
was estimated. The domains of applicability of the traditional models, ignoring the influence of a nonuniform
distribution of particle surface charge, were determined.
