Abstract—The visible distribution of galaxies in the sky is modeled, taking account of both their spatial clus-
tering and the effects of nonuniform light absorption in the Galaxy. The relative fluctuation of the numbers of
galaxies n and n' in area elements separated by is defined by the expression frame0= (n frame1 n')2/ (n + n' + 0.01).
Thedependence of the quantityframe2 on the angle for frame3 1.5° in the Lick Observatory counts for Galactic lat-
itude b > 60frame4 may be explained only as the effect of nonuniform interstellar absorption.
